While most people only think of honeybees (Apis mellifera) when thinking about bees, there are over 20,000 species of bees worldwide and 900 species of wild bees in Colorado, all of which contribute to pollination of our valuable flowering plant species (Scott et al. 2011). It is important to study these valuable species to better understand how we can manage environments to make sure that bee pollinators have the resources they need to survive. While it is incredibly difficult to identify bees to species, we can categorize them by traits to get a sense of the diversity.
